The easiest way to write an effective journal is as follow. As I am from Computer Science major, I narrate related to my domain. 

1. Find the domain you want to make your research like Data mining. 
2. Narrow down to any one interested area from that domain like Clustering in Data Mining
3. Find any one problem by making literature survey in that particular area like time consumption in clustering data in Data Mining
4. Find solution in some other areas like Mobile Computing or Cloud Computing which uses data and clustering of data in it.
5. Definitely there could be a same problem addressed in that domain in different way.
6. Make an in-depth study of that solution and if possible adapt the solution to your domain. But mind it you cannot use the same solution in that domain into ours. We have to be thorough in our domain and we should make all the modification to make a novel solution suitable for our problem.
7. This is the shortest way to write a novel article in a shortest time span.
